One of the things that I find most inspiring about self-defense class at the Boston Martial Arts Center is the quality of people that train. Over the years of running a dojo (school) I see people come and go each person that steps in the door has their own unique way of looking at the world. And I think that is very important. What we encourage at our dojo is independent thinking. When studying and teaching self-defense it is very important to see the world from many angles and many views. Remember the enemy will want you to be closed-minded and uninformed.

In self-defense we seek not to hurt. We only seek balance. You see in self-defense, it not about wining or losing it is about the ending of violence and bringing a balance and order to things. Without balance and order the universe cannot flow. This paradigm shift is very important to do when you want to grow as a person also. It is not about being soft, or ego. It is about balance.
